T. D.  (THE MONOGRAMIST’S MONOGRAPH)
When an artistic monograph is published, most of the time the outcome is pretty bad — cliché bordering on kitsch, and no courage to try something different. But a monograph on an artist of Slovakia’s middle generation shows that a healthy dose of confidence can result in a beautiful book whose faith in form remains in step with the artist’s respected work.

THE ARCHITECTURE OF METROPOLIS
Fritz Lang’s oceanic journey in the autumn of 1924 culminates in the same way as for many immigrants before him: with a view of the Statue of Liberty and the Manhattan skyline – in other words, the future. Starting from this point in space and time, Jan Wollner goes in search of the origins of the architectural aesthetics of Lang’s most famous film, Metropolis.

Pověsti o těžkých časech na trhu s uměním jsou opět velmi přehnané...
Letošní 50. ročník Art Basel přilákal celkem 93 000 návštěvníků a sběratelů z 80 zemí světa. 290 prémiových galerií představilo umělecká díla od počátku 20. století až po současnost. Hlavní sektor přehlídky, tradičně v prvním patře výstavního prostoru, představil 232 předních galerií z celého světa nabízející umění nejvyšší kvality. Veletrh ukázal vzestupný trend prodeje prostřednictvím galerií jak soukromým sbírkám, tak i institucím. Kromě hlavního veletrhu stály za návštěvu i ty přidružené: Volta, Liste a Photo Basel, k tomu doprovodné programy a výstavy v místních institucích, které kvalitou daleko přesahují hranice města tj. Kunsthalle Basel, Kunstmuseum, Tinguely muzeum nebo Fondation Beyeler.
