Born in 1978, Kalinová currently studies at Peter Rónai’s Intermedia and Conceptual Tendencies Studio at the Fine Arts Faculty at the Technical College in Brno. Originally trained as a painter, Jana Kalinová focuses on conceptual objects, which seem almost to fall from her hands. Their striking creative and ironic nature makes them stand out among works by other young artists. Her objects give the impression that Kalinová is simply pulling them out of her own private well with the expression of a person who knows that the well is bottomless. One of her most distinctive works includes a set of wooden light bulbs, floor lamps, cookers and heaters, which only proves how easy it is to make good art. The revived, negative of a fire extinguisher evokes a visit by extra terrestrials at Kalinová’s home, which is also the case with the color-copied towels. Jana Kalinová works with time as well as against it: for example, her model of a TV set from the 1970s.
